Nutrition for PLWHA (3)
-------------------------------

I really enjoy the dialogue. Thanks and congrats to the moderator.

I have a question: where do PLWHA usually get food from? At feeding centers, national or foreign-funded food distribution programs or other community-based services? Lack of or reduced access to nutritionally appropriate food may be part of the problem. This affects everyone in the family, especially women and children who sometimes are the last to receive the family distribution.

I also agree that nutrition for PLWHA has not been adequately addressed.
Currently donors for feeding programmes in emergencies are increasingly
focusing on indices which show the effectiveness of feeding programmes.

Does anybody know of any data which shows whether there are any differences
in recovery rates or mortality rates of PLWHA in emergency feeding
programmes. Ideally PLWHA should recover at the same rate however this may
well be affected by the stage of the disease. It may be the case that
feeding centres are full of HIV/AIDS and TB patients who may not be
recovering as would be expected. If differences do occur then analysis of
feeding programme data could be stratified and any variation from targets
could be explained.
