The first sentence of the second paragraph sounds bizarre to me. That kind of HIV exceptionalism transmitted by your two colleagues is an attitude and
approach that is likely to GENERATE and REINFORCE stigma.

Our experience in Malawi has been frustrating, just due to the fact that no
one seems to have time to set aside for this. We are the Nutrition Society
of Malawi (unregistered, but in the process of registration). As important
as we all feel the guidelines are, we haven't gotten beyond a few meetings
over the past year to develop a proposal. Now we have someone ready to
provide us with money, but no one with the time to spearhead the process.
We will find a way eventually. It would have helped if we were already
registered as a group and focusing on issues and advocacy instead of
organizing ourselves.
There was a concern that targeting PLWHA for nutrition guidelines would be
problematic because of the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS - this was the
message that 2 of our colleagues came back with after a conference last
year. We are not sure if we are convinced but thought that it wouldn't hurt
to develop general nutrition guidelines for Malawi with sections on
guidelines for various issues we have in Malawi - undernutrition, diabetes,
gout, HIV/AIDS, etc.
If you are interested in seeing our proposal we would be happy to share.
