Nutrition care and support for HIV positive infants and children
?---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mothers, their partners and caregivers'views
We would like to hear from mothers, their partners, or caregivers on their experiences and lessons learned in taking care of the nutrition of HIV infected infants and children. What works? what are the challenges?
Some options suggested by the members of the forum, for the feeding of HIV positive infants include heat-treated breastmilk, and breastfeeding. What challenges have you had with any of these options? What about the feeding of the young HIV positive child? what works? what are the challenges?
What messages/recommendations did you receive from the providers about the feeding options and care of your HIV positive infant and child? What works best? What are the challenges. What are your suggestions on how to improve nutrition care and support of infants and children?
For those mothers, their partners or caregivers who do not have access to internet, we suggest that providers and other members of the forum who work directly with them discuss the issues above with them and report back to the forum. It is very important that their voice be heard in the forum, since they are the receivers and implementers of the messages/recommendations, it is critical to know if their needs are being adequately addressed with the recommendations and messages provided, how feasible are the recommendations/ messages given, and most of all, what are their suggestions to improve feeding and care practices of HIV positive children.
