Case studies of success using nutrition for PLWHA
?------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Judy

HOPE worldwide is an NGO facilitating community prevention, care and
support, and community mobilization in 5 cities in South Africa. Food and
nutrition of PWA have been the 'bread and butter' of our successful support
programs. We receive donated food from retail shops (day-old bread,
vegetables, damaged goods to be returned to suppliers). We also allocate
donated funds to supplement food supplies to PWA's (usually packaged as a food parcel to a family on a home visit). That contains fortified porridge,
soya and other proteins.

Hospice and Community Aids Response (CARE) in Johannesburg has done more extensive observation of the impact of nutrition and supplements to
specific clients. More details can be obtained from Mr. Riaan Janeke(email
ffc@netactive.co.za), the supplier of the fortified porridge used in these programs.
