Food is important

I agree wholeheartedly.
It may seem distal to the discussion, but it would help if the United
States government didn't block access to American markets to agricultural
goods from developing nations. (So much for "free" trade which appears to be more about "rape" than anything else.)
Such an economic stimulus along with a return to certain subsistence
farming practices may be helpful, rather than the failed "cash crops" only
approach of IMF/WB "structural adjustment programs" that helped destroy African economies.
Food is important. Economic well-being helps assure that access. At this
point, the debt relief SHOULD BE IMMEDIATE and retroactive. They gave loans and a lot of BAD advice.
As a result, the poverty in Africa has worsened horribly.
Of course, that in no way justifies the corrupt activities of some
governments and their failure to help their people in the all-out copying
of American/Western corporate privilege without the slightest hint of
responsibility. (More rape.)
All that having been said, I'd add too that Botswana resist the garbage put out by Abbott like Ensure which is really a lot of sugars, bad fats and is rather unhealthy. There may be some better products and in the end, when I talk with people here that have severely limited incomes, if that is all they can consume, it is better than nothing. but only nominally.
