Honey in the diets of PLWHA

BENFITS:
Honey has about 16 different nutrients, mostly carbohydrate, B Vitamins and
many different minerals. Per 100 gms:
0.3 g protein
82.4 g carbohydrate
1 mg Vitiamin C
.04 mg Riboflavin
0.1 mg Niacin
.02 mg Vitamin B6
2.0 microg Folate
.07 mg Panothenic Acid
6 mg Calcium
4 mg Phosphorus
2 mg Magnisium
52 mg Potasium
4 mg Sodium
0.4 g Iron
0.2 mg Zinc
.04 mg Copper
.08 mg Mangenese
Although, most of these contribute only 1-2 percent of a person's daily
nutrient needs for each category.
Another BENEFIT of honey is it has antibiotic properites.

The DOWNFALL of Honey is it's high sugar content - the bacteria that causes thrush feeds off of sugar and can exacerbate thrush and other bacterial
infections in the GI tract for people with HIV.

Another downfall MIGHT be that honey is not recommended for children under 1 year of age, and this MIGHT also apply to a person with HIV? The reason being that raw honey has botulism spores in it.

Hope this helps,
Stacia
