Breastfeeding and maternal HIV disease progression
In response to the question:
Are there data on breastfeeding and maternal HIV progression, maternal morbidity, and maternal survival?
I am a PhD student in the university of Vienna. My area of interest is in Maternal HIV and infant feeding. I have looked through a lot of literature on the above subject and i find that there is a missing gap. Most of the literature concentrates on the infants and there is little information on the mother before and after delivery. I will be carrying out a study from Jan 2004 for 1 1/2 years in Kenya. What i am looking for is how HIV is impacting on the health and nutritional status of the women, on the pregnancy outcome among other things. I will also look at the same indicators in respect to the infant feeding mode chosen. I will compare these mothers with HIV negative women also. I hope to come up with some interesting information.
If there are other sources of information that i can review, i would be glad to know.
