WHO HIV and Infant Feeding
Guidelines for Decision-Makers

http://www.who.int/child-adolescent-health/New_Publications/NUTRITION/HIV_IF_DM.pdf

The guidelines presented here are a revision of guidelines originally published, under the same title,1 in 1998.
They have been revised to take account of new scientific and epidemiological information. The main changes are to:
* incorporate recommendations from a WHO Technical Consultation on prevention if mother-to-child
transmission of HIV, held in October 20002
* take account of the Global Strategy for Infant and Young Child Feeding3 jointly developed by WHO and
UNICEF
* list the actions recommended in the HIV and Infant Feeding Framework for Priority Action4
* incorporate programmatic experience since 1998
* give more guidance for countries considering providing free or subsidized infant formula
* reduce the volume of information on prevention of HIV infection in infants and young children in general
* include new research findings.
