HIV and Infant Feeding Counselling: From research to practice
This report describes an informal meeting on HIV and infant feeding that took place in Geneva on 15-16 November 2004. WHO convened this meeting to share the latest findings from research related to HIV and infant feeding counselling and from prevention of MTCT programme implementation experience, and to discuss the implications for the integrated infant feeding counselling course. The purpose of this report is to share and provide a brief explanation of the recommendations formulated during the meeting. It contains an introduction, a summary of the key information presented, the implications for increasing effectiveness of infant feeding counselling, recommendations and next steps. One of the annexes is a note for the record of a smaller meeting held on November 17 to discuss competencies for the integrated course and to define target audiences for the various infant feeding counselling courses that are currently being promoted by WHO and UNICEF.
