[pronut-hiv] Guidelines for food donations?

Dear all,

A lot of our member organisations both receive and request donations of food from individuals, shops, companies and overseas donor agencies. For now most soup kitchens and/or feeding schemes take what they can get, which could be anything from half rotten vegetables to bags and bags of NikNaks.

Does anyone have any guidelines, recommendations for how to deal with food
donations? What to ask for and how to do it instead of accepting just
anything.

Both our members but also potential donors need to be well informed and
educated on what is "good" donations.
Naturally we wish that donations weren't needed at all but until we get
there.

Thanks

/Linda
