Compact AS Norway/ Denmark, processors of BP 5 high Energy biscuits for
disaster and emrgency relief, have developed a product called Afya (swahili name for health) for optimal nutrition of PLWHAs. It has been used by Christian Health Association (CHAM) in Malawi. An accetability test has also been done in Malawi and Afya was reported to improve overall health status of PLWHAs. Its use as a component of HBC kits was reported to be practical and feasible. At present MSF, France Kenya is making use of Afya in Mathare and Homabay and the reports are good.
In addition they process a RTUF, BP 100 based of WHO F100 formula for
rehabilitation of severely malnourished children and adults suitable for
therapeutic feeding.
May be these would be options worth considering Anni.
Thanks
