Hello,
This is really nice and I look forward. As our countries are developing and
getting to the computer age, yes we lagging behind in Health information. I
say this because we organize small seminars from Nutrition and the feedback
from the Health professionals is that they need more.
As you plan for the Information Technology, please do have in mind, those
health professionals working in very remote areas where what they can use
for communications is radio call.
Otherwise, thank you for all the good work. I have personally benefited a
lot from Pronut,

Dear colleagues,
For almost eighteen years, SATELLIFE has brought health and medical
information to healthcare workers throughout the world. Our 12 global,
expert-moderated discussion groups covering topics ranging from HIV/AIDS to
African health research and development, have provided the foundation for
our goal of leading a global partnership of health care institutions and
practitioners and empowering them to communicate and share the information
they need to alleviate the suffering of millions of people in the worlds
poorest countries.
In order to better achieve our mission, SATELLIFE is joining with the
Academy for Educational Development to form the AED-SATELLIFE Center for
Health Information Technology. Founded in 1961, the Academy for Educational
Development (<http://www.aed.org/>www.aed.org) is an independent, nonprofit
organization committed to solving social problems and building the capacity
of individuals, communities, and institutions to become more
self-sufficient. AED works in all the major areas of development with a
focus on improving health, education, and economic opportunities for the
least advantaged throughout the world. SATELLIFEs initiatives to strengthen
the global health community by facilitating dialogue and disseminating
relevant information on the world's most urgent health topics fit well with
AEDs mission to implement solutions to critical social problems.
AED has partnered with SATELLIFE on several projects, including a moderated
discussion group, ProNUT-HIV, and an associated Web site,
<http://www.pronutrition.org/>www.pronutrition.org, which offer timely
information and discussions on nutrition related to HIV/AIDS, mothers and
children, emergencies, and food security. AED and SATELLIFE have also
collaborated on introducing handheld computers in Nepal to support a quality
improvement program for local health centers.
Both we at SATELLIFE and our colleagues at AED remain committed to providing
access to public health and medical information and fostering open
communication on related issues. We foresee no changes in the availability
of the Global Health Forums. Indeed, because AEDs efforts span the globe,
we hope that many more healthcare workers will learn about and benefit from
these information services. We look forward to continuing our work, putting
information into the hands that heal.
Yours sincerely,
Holly Ladd
