[pronut-hiv] Ghana: HIV/AIDS People Attend Workshop

Divine Faith Association, an NGO operating in Techiman municipality has
organized a three-month training workshop for 30 persons living with
HIV/AIDS in Techiman. The participants, who were selected from Techiman,
Akomadan and Kintampo, were taken through the manufacturing of liquid
soap, powder and bar soap to help them to become self-reliant.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency in Techiman, Mrs Dorcas Armstrong
Fordjour, vice president of the Ghana Registered Midwives Association,
noted that people living with HIV/AIDS often died due to poverty and
poor nutrition.

She stressed the importance to help them gain employable skills to
enhance their livelihood.

Mrs Doris Mensah-Sarfo, Municipal Director of Health Service, advised
the participants to eat nutritious meals to build their immunity to
control opportunistic infections of the disease.

Madam Bagrmwin Clementia, Municipal Disease Control Officer, advised
them against sharing used needles, syringes and razor blades and urged
them to embrace training schemes to become productive in order to
generate income to enhance their longevity.

The participants expressed appreciation for the training and gave the
assurance that they would not relent in efforts and would work
tirelessly to achieve their training objectives.

One of the participants registered her displeasure about the
stigmatization of victims by the general public.
