The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) of
the US National Institutes of Health (NIH)is pleased to announce the
publication of two new requests for applications. Details can be found
at the following URLs:
RFA-HD-07-022
Nutrition and Prevention, Care, and Treatment of HIV/AIDS (R01)
http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-HD-07-022.html
This funding opportunity announcement is intended to address more
broadly the myriad of issues pertaining to the role of nutrition in
prevention, care and treatment of HIV with particular reference to
women, infants and children. It is updated slightly from last year to
emphasize issues related to treatment interactions and co-morbidities.
The funding mechanism will be the RO1 mechanism. As we hope to fund a
number of new applications we will be limiting the size of awards for
successful applications to $250,000/year in direct costs for up to five
years.
RFA-HD-07-023
Integration of Food and Nutrition into Prevention, Care, and Treatment
of HIV Infection and AIDS (R03)
http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-HD-07-023.html
This RFA is intended to support funding for small grants (the NIH
designated RO3 mechanism) consisting of $50.000 US/year in direct costs
for up to 2 years to support studies of the impact of the changing food
and nutrition environment on prevention, care and treatment of HIV and
AIDS.
While both RFAs emphasize Africa in their description applications are
not limited geographically and can be to domestic (US) or international
institutions..
These are reissues of the RFAs published last year with some additional
emphasis placed on important emerging issues. Please read them carefully
to get a full appreciation of their scope and purpose.
Please visit the following site for detailed description of NIH and the
grant process.

This is an important opportunity for the community to develop the
essential evidence we need to address many of the outstanding questions
regarding the important role of nutrition in prevention, care and
treatment of HIV and AIDS. Such research will go a long way to support
realistic and sustainable evidence based programs and policies. We need
a good response from the community so get those applications together!
Good luck to all. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any
questions. Thanks
