USAID's Food and Nutrition Technical Assistance (FANTA) Project has
released Review Of Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition
(CMAM) in the Post-Emergency Context: Synthesis of Lessons on
Integration of CMAM into National Health Systems. The report discusses
recommendations for the integration of CMAM, including specific steps
donors, Ministries of Health, the UN and NGOs can take to facilitate the
process, as well as next steps needed to expand the knowledge and
evidence base for CMAM integration.
The report is based on reviews conducted by FANTA of CMAM programs in
Ethiopia, Malawi, and Niger from April to June 2007. The reviews focused
onthe integration of CMAM programs into the national health systems of
these three countries and identified key elements of CMAM integration
grouped in five domains: the enabling environment, access to services,
access to supplies, quality of services, and competencies for CMAM.
Support for this report was provided by USAID's Bureau for Democracy,
Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance's Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster
Assistance (OFDA) and Bureau for Global Health's Office of Health,
Infectious Disease and Nutrition.
The report can be downloaded from FANTA's website at
www.fantaproject.org.
The FANTA Project is also hosting a workshop on the integration of CMAM
services on April 28-30, 2008, in Washington, D.C.
