Maternal & Child Nutrition: Special issue on Strategies and
Interventions in Public Health Nutrition

Maternal & Child Nutrition, edited by Peter Aggett and Victoria Hall
Moran, has, as one of its priorities, an awareness of the need to
present nutrition in the context of the life trajectory and the external
determinants that influence the delivery and efficicacy of nutrition, as
they affect individuals and populations. The recent supplement
Strategies and Interventions in Public Health Nutrition, guest
editors Zulfiqar A. Bhutta, Meera Shekar and Tahmeed Ahmed,supported by
the Mainstreaming Nutrition Initiative (

), exemplifies these principles as they apply to maternal and child
undernutrition. The Supplement raises a number of issues of how proposed
interventions and improvements in services can be implemented
effectively. The Supplement emphasises that an integrated, intelligent,
and sustainable health care system and civic structure is necessary if
as well as curative services, effective preventative interventions can
be implemented and promoted to support maternal and child nutrition.
