Dear colleagues,
I must thank Dr.Mwadime for this worthy
discussion. We have developed wonderful guidelines in
Kenya and these are my concerns and suggestions
1)Dissemmination of the guidelines- there has been
poor dissemmination of the guidelines and without
assuming that health care providers will read and
understand the guidelines, a training or a
sensitization should be part of the dissemination
process instead of distribution of the documents. This
will help to incite the poor reading culture of health
workers.I suggest that partners involved in HIV/AIDS
activities should incorporate dissemmination of
guidlines as a must nutrition activity in their
workplans.
2)Nutrition equipments- Apart from weighing
scales, other equipments like MUAC tapes and height
boards are not adequate or easily available.I suggest
that this equipment should be made easily
available. This will aid in operationalizing the
guidelines.
3)Community Based Organizations(CBOs)and CORPs should
be involved and be used in the dissemination
process. This will help in initiating community
interventions for PLWHA and identification of OVC.
